Explorer Day is a great way for kids and their parents to enjoy a FREE day of fun, hands-on learning! This free day of family fun is packed with educational activities, games, and performances. With over 20 local businesses and non-profits bringing free educational activities to Parkview Field, there will be something for everyone! This event brought to you in part by 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union.
All volunteers will be responsible for continually trying to keep the tables wiped down and as "germ free" as any kids event can be. Volunteer Opportunities may include 1 of the following:

8am-10am SETUP Set up Help - You will be lifting, setting up tents, lugging equipment and supplies 8am-10am Balloons You will be blowing up helium balloons and getting them ready for the masses placing balloons on a holder with ribbon 8am-10am Vendor Director Handing out maps and making sure vendors get set up in the right table spaces 10-2 shifts can be broken down into 2 hour increments - There will be multiple "tables" set up throughout the Tin caps Stadium where children's activities will be taking place Activity 1: Curious George - "Lets learn science" Germ cleaning station - you will spray children's hands with a water bottle, shake glitter on their hands and have them use anit-bacterial wipes to show them how to "clean germs" off their hands (the glitter represents all the germs that stick to their hands) Activity 2: Peg + Cat Hopscotch - Each child receives a PBS Kids eraser, they will throw it onto a number (do the hopscotch board where they pick up their eraser) They then get a prize out of a numbered bucket (the number matches the number their eraser landed on). Teaching small children number recognition Activity 3: Nature Cat Making tracks - Adults will be cutting open individual packages of clay that the children can make into something using a cookie cutter or stamps to create "Creature Art" Making tracks. The child is then given a wax paper bag to put their creation in the clay does air-harden within a couple hours Activity 4: Sid the Science Kid's Super Fab lab - Kids will be looking at cool things under their very own "magnifying" glass and taking a paper that they can make observations with. We have all kinds of things from nature and bugs that inside of glass balls. Other similar activities may be added before the event. Clean-up Help 2pm-3:30pm - this involves physical fitness - we have only 1-hour to clean up our entire event as they most likely will have a playoff game that evening. This involves cleaning up the activities and putting things in their assigned totes and using various carts to bring them to the PBS Fort Wayne Van This also involves folding up tables and chairs and taking them to a location within the stadium |
