Volunteer Opportunities From: Volunteer Center

This position will work alongside our Lead Volunteers, assisting in the store during business hours. Veterans and spouses will be shopping during this time. Various tasks that could be completed include: restocking clothing on shelves and hanging racks, putting clothing on hangers, folding clothing, sorting and stacking in our stockroom, receiving donated items, and identifying items that will go to our partner charities. 

Cleaning and general upkeep of the facility. 

This position is predominantly standing, some seated options are available.

This position is located at our Processing Center on IN-930 not our Store on Calhoun St

This position will work alongside our Lead Volunteers to help process clothing donations. Some of the tasks to be completed are: sorting and separating clothing, folding clothing, placing items on hangers, filling storage totes, consolidating items to be donated to a partner charity, and general cleaning and upkeep of the building. 

Primarily standing, accommodations can be made for sitting.

Hey, want to be part of something awesome? The City of Fort Wayne Greenways and Trails team is on the lookout for folks to join as Greenway Rangers and help keep our sidepath trails in top shape.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, a sidepath is just a fancy name for a two-way trail that runs right along the road—think bikes, joggers, and dog-walkers all sharing the lane.

Here’s what you’d be doing as a Greenway Ranger:

- Patrol your own little stretch of trail (half a mile to a mile) once a week from April through October. Winter patrols? Totally your call.

- Notice anything weird—like graffiti, fallen branches, or cracks in the path? Give the Program Manager a quick shout.

- Track your patrol hours each month. Nothing tricky, promise.

- Pick up litter, clear away small branches, sweep up debris—just the easy stuff. If it’s something bigger, let the Program Manager know and they’ll handle it.

Our target audience is listeners of all ages who have difficulty seeing, holding, or understanding traditional printed materials.

Native Plant Propagation Series:  Seed Cleaning Party!

Help us clean the seeds we've collected at our last Seed Cleaning Party of the season! Learn to separate seed from chaff, or dry plant material, and why both are valuable for the marsh and the wildlife it sustains. Learn about and contribute to our Seed-to-Marsh seed mix which we'll use to grow native plants like Common Milkweed, Bee Balm, and Tall Ironweed all across Eagle Marsh!

We'll meet at our office, at 8315 W Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.

Join us to learn how to identify invasive honeysuckle, Callery pear, and autumn olive species, then hike with us to remove as many of these as we can!  Removing invasive species is crucial to preserving biodiversity, and we can't do it without you. Come make an impact in your community!

Science Central has devised a chilling, age 21 and up only, science-filled evening to excite and stimulate the mind and senses. What dark, chilling secrets will continue to rise to the surface?

We need help during the event with staffing four activity tables, a buy-a-clue table, and a spin-to-win table.

We also need help with set-up beginning at 3:00 p.m. and with tear-down until 10:00 p.m.

Wednesday evenings (the second and fourth each month), Journey Beside Mothers hosts events for moms to attend. Our Great Moms Club is open to any mom and childcare is needed for preschool aged children while we offer the moms community, enrichment and support. The childcare will be from 5:50 pm- 7:30 pm. A light meal will be provided. A background check is required. We welcome ages 16+ to volunteer. 

Monday and/or Tuesday mornings from 9:00 am - 11:30 am, A Baby's Closet needs help getting the store ready for customers. This includes counting baby clothing items, hanging clothes, and putting outfits together. If you love baby clothes, you will love this opportunity.

Meet and assist families with babies and young children at A Baby's Closet (ABC).  As an ABC, volunteer, you will greet families and provide customer service to our clients.  Volunteers should possess a cooperative, loving attitude and be able to work closely with staff, other volunteers, and customers.  You may choose to volunteer weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. Volunteers must first meet with the ABC Director or the Volunteer Coordinator before volunteering. (How does ABC work? ABC provides essential baby items to mothers who receive prenatal care, attend childbirth classes, take their children to well-child appointments, and keep immunizations up-to-date.  Coupons are received from service providers to be used for items at ABC.)

We will be meeting at Edward's Sewing Center for a workday.

We will need those who do not sew or do not want to bring their machine to pin cases for sewing, iron cases after they are sewn before trimming and those who only wish to iron washed cases to fold, put in zip top bags and add the insert as the last step. Children who are accompanied by an adult can easily do the folding and insert.

If you prefer to sew, we welcome sergers and machines. Please bring all items you would normally have while sewing.

We provide 2 cutting stations, 2-3 ironing stations and as many sewing stations as Edward's can comfortably hold.  Please RSVP to Edward's IN ADDITION to RSVPing through the Volunteer Center as they have requested to have a headcount before day of. We could use volunteers to come in and read to nonverbal residents. This can really be any time. We could always use volunteers to play a game of some sort in the evenings. We play balloon ball at 4:30 pm every day. On Saturdays, we can have someone come in to help with exercise or play bingo from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

We would love to have volunteers spend time one-to-one, listening and reminiscing about the “good old days,” playing piano (or other musical instruments) if you are musically-minded, or helping to facilitate arts and crafts or games with those who call Lutheran Life Villages home.

Lutheran Life Villages sponsors and hosts the Rock Steady Boxing Program.  The mission of Rock Steady Boxing is to equip our affiliates and empower the coaches to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease through a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum.

We are looking for volunteers to help participants who may need some extra assistance, help with organizing equipment, and assist the coaches.

Volunteers Needed for Family Fun Fest!

Come volunteer for Family Fun Fest on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.!

Family Fun Fest is a gathering that gives kids and adults the chance to explore science in action with hands-on experiments.

There will be four tables supervised by volunteers. Visitors come and go "open-house-style" to each table which has an activity designed to spark curiosity, encourage experimentation, and make complex concepts easy to understand.

Supplies and instructions are located at each table where the volunteer will assist the visitors in completing the activity.

Make a Difference in a Child’s Life – Become a CASA Volunteer

The Allen County CASA Program recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers get to know the child, gather information, and make recommendations to the court about what is in the child’s best interest.

As a CASA volunteer, you’ll be a consistent and supportive presence for a child navigating the foster care system. You’ll help the child understand what’s happening in their case and ensure their voice is heard among a sea of professionals-lawyers, caseworkers, doctors, and judges.

Your advocacy helps judges make informed decisions so children can be placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Beyond court, CASA volunteers often support educational needs, encourage goals, and serve as positive role models. This is more than volunteering, it’s a chance to change a child’s life, and your own.

Repair formal and semi-formal dresses as needed. Repairing of items could include zippers, button and hems. Dresses can be picked up at The Gown Garden boutique and taken home to be mended. 

Hand washing and sanitizing synthetic wigs to help keep our wig salon stocked with different styles for our clients to choose from. Once wigs have been washed, they will be hung to dry for 24 hours. Once the wigs have dried, volunteer will comb out. Volunteers can wash, sanitize and hang wigs to dry only, or come in to comb out dry wigs to be placed in the wig salon. No experience necessary. Hello! We are looking to teach a few individuals on how to install memorial bricks, which pave the sidewalk to our building. These bricks are purchased by individuals who would like to honor their loved ones who lost their battle to cancer. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND NO HEAVY LABOR! We have all the tools you will need.

This volunteer project can be completed during or after business hours, and installations happen approximately three to four times a year, depending on the need.

Come and help us distribute fresh produce and other food to families! This is an OUTDOOR activity at Saint Peter's Catholic Church at 518 E Dewald St, and includes loading food into cars. This is a great event, and CHFB's second busiest farm wagon. It is a fast paced activity that requires attention to detail and safety. Because of this, we ask that you are at least 14 years old. Exceptions can be made by Volunteer Manager or CHFB Leadership. This is one of the highest poverty zip codes in Indiana at nearly 50% (46803), your efforts will go far here! 

The people who frequent this distribution sincerely appreciate your kind spirit, and so do Community Harvest employees! 

Bonus CHFB Credit hours! Earn 3 hours credit for Volunteering at this event. That is roughly double time.

Imagine trading days—or even weeks or months—of hospital food and vending machines for a delicious, home-cooked meal. That’s the impact you can make as a meal volunteer at Hope’s Harbor!

As a meal volunteer, you will purchase the ingredients and prepare a meal for our guests. Whether you come as a family or with friends, coworkers, classmates, or teammates, preparing a meal for our guests is a meaningful and rewarding experience. You can choose to make breakfast, lunch, or dinner, either in our beautiful gourmet kitchen or by bringing food from a commercial kitchen or restaurant. 

Volunteers typically cook for 12–15 people at our Lutheran location and 10-12 people at our Dupont location. We don’t require you to accommodate specific dietary needs, guests are always welcome to prepare something else from the pantry if needed.

Lutheran Meal Preparation / Drop off times – Please arrive between the hours below to begin preparing the meal or to drop it off. You are able to stay after to enjoy the meal with the families and clean up:
Mon-Fri: 9:00am - 7:00pm   /   Sat-Sun 9:00am-12:00pm & 4:30pm-7:00pm

Our annual Coats for Kids runs November/December. All year round our volunteers knit/crochet hats and scarves to accompany the over 10,000 coats we hand out to children in need. We have donated yarn at our office that can be picked up for use with this project. Keep those hands busy while watching tv and keeping your social distance! We also accept baby blankets and lap blankets. 

Join us the first Thursday of each month (except September) at 10 am at our office, 3401 Lake Avenue, Suite 4 for fellowship with other knitters/crocheters! You'll load and unload furniture safely (50+ lbs with assistance), provide respectful service to donors and clients, follow planned routes, and maintain the truck. Must be 25+ with a valid license and clean driving record. This is active, hands-on work—and you'll meet people from every corner of the community.

You'll sort and inspect donations, create attractive displays, help customers, keep the store organized, and possibly run the register (with training). When someone walks into one of our 12 food pantry locations across Fort Wayne, they're often facing one of the hardest weeks of their life. Your job is simple but powerful: greet them with dignity, help them select nutritious food, and make sure they leave with what they need. You'll stock shelves, pack food boxes, check expiration dates, and keep the pantry organized and welcoming.

The work is physical—lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods—but it's also deeply relational. This is where food insecurity meets human kindness, and you're the bridge.

The Carpenter's Sons Ministry builds ramps, repairs porches, and makes critical home modifications so elderly and disabled neighbors can safely stay in their homes. Every Tuesday morning, we gather for coffee and fellowship, then head out to worksites across the community. You'll use your carpentry skills—or learn them from experienced volunteers—to solve real problems: a wheelchair ramp that restores independence, a repaired step that prevents a fall, a grab bar that makes bathing safe again.

We welcome everyone from seasoned tradespeople to enthusiastic beginners. If you can measure, cut, lift materials, and follow safety protocols, we'll teach you the rest. Many volunteers come as duos or small teams—it's easier to learn and more fun to build together.

We provide the state-of-the-art accessible van, the route, and the training. You provide a clean driving record (age 25+), reliability, and the ability to assist passengers in and out of the vehicle. Most drivers serve one week every 8–10 weeks, so it's flexible but committed.

Whether you're sanding a dresser that will hold a child's clothes for the first time in months, or building a bed frame for someone leaving homelessness, your hands create dignity.

We meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. No experience required—just a willingness to learn, follow safety protocols, and show up consistently. Bring a friend; many of our volunteers work in teams.

The Audio Reading Service's target audience is listeners of all ages who have visual, physical, learning, or language challenges to reading traditional print.  We broadcast the recorded readings of news and information from over 90 publications. Articles are read aloud and recorded in our studios.

One current opportunity is our Whatzup program!

• Provide listeners with comprehensive entertainment information, including articles, local events, and local music and movie reviews by reading Whatzup. Materials are read from hard copy. This is a weekly commitment for a 90-minute recording session timeslot. We can work with your schedule, Monday-Friday between 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Elara Caring , a leading care provider in the Midwest, is looking for your administrative expertise that is willing to donate their time to assist team members in the Fort Wayne hospice branch. We have volunteer opportunities within the Elara Caring office to assist with weekly calls, mailings, filing, data entry and numerous other special projects. Weekdays, 8AM - 5PM are preferred. Typically we offer 1-2 hours per week for office staff. Although the hours per week can vary somewhat. For more information, please respond!

Elara Caring, one of the nation's largest providers of home-based care, is looking for compassionate volunteers willing to donate their time to provide exceptional end-of-life care to local hospice patients and their families.

Volunteers are needed to visit with patients and engage them in activities such as playing music, singing, working on a craft project, sharing a special moment or simply providing companionship through listening, talking or holding a hand. Volunteers can sometimes provide respite care visits, allowing family members to take a much-needed break.

Hours are very flexible, weekdays, evenings or weekends. Typically, we ask that you visit your assigned patient 1-2 hours per week. Opportunities are available in Allen, Huntington, Wells, and Whitley Counties. For more information, please respond. 

The AEP Foundation is providing free admission to Science Central on Saturday, January 24th!

The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers are needed throughout the day to interact with guests, direct guest traffic, staff specific exhibits, run activity tables, conduct visitor surveys, and help with demonstrations. Help is also needed with set-up and tear-down.

This is traditionally one of our busiest events (1000-2000 guests) with visitors of all ages.

There will be a variety of health-related displays set up around the building and staffed by local doctors' offices.

We typically do not have activity tables of our own on this day. But we need volunteers to man the doors and keep the event running smoothly, interact with guests and direct guest traffic. We would also appreciate help with set-up and tear-down.

GiGi’s Genesis Health Bar is operated by GiGi University graduates specializing in smoothies, wraps, Croissants, Salads, and a variety of catering services. The vision is to eliminate barriers so that individuals with disabilities can develop their skillset and explore employment opportunities. Learning opportunities include customer service, independence, career training, community integration, building self-confidence, teamwork, promoting acceptance in the community by developing social, interpersonal and occupational skills. 

Health bar volunteer assistant will help with food prep for walk in and catering orders. Volunteer will report to the Health bar manager and help the participants focus on tasks and complete tasks as assigned by manager. Volunteer may also assist with cleaning, stocking, and answering phones.

We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable gardener to take the lead in planning and maintaining our garden spaces. This role is ideal for someone interested in leading a fruit and vegetable garden, but some flower planting and planning can also be incorporated. The Lead Gardener will decide what to plant, where, and when, and will create a seasonal care schedule that outlines tasks like watering, weeding, pruning, and harvesting. Once a plan is in place, additional volunteers will be recruited to help carry it out, with the Lead Gardener providing guidance and support. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys both the creative and practical sides of gardening and wants to help our garden thrive year-round. 

**We understand it may be late in the season for much planting, but we’re open to any remaining seasonal tasks and welcome planning ahead for next year’s garden.

Come on down to the YLNI Winter Market at 3811 Illinois Rd. Every Saturday we host our market and we'd love your help cleaning tables, checking on bathrooms, and other minor tasks. Stay the entire shift of 9a - 1p or just come for a couple of hours, whatever works with your schedule! 

We have 3-4 carts in our office that have been well used and need a little fixing up as we would like to continue using them! We are in need of a trusted handy person to help us out with this.

We need your help to set out toys, hang clothing and coats, and much more. If you'd like to help out, even for an hour, we'd love to have you! If you're into organizing.... this is for you!  We are open Mon-Fri 8:30-4:00. Stop in and we can certainly use your help to make our Toy Shop the best yet!

Assist as needed with special events, fundraisers, events taking place in our garden venue, helping in our warehouse, assisting at The Gown Garden, and wherever help is needed.  We are flexible with volunteers hours. There are lots of opportunities to match your skills.

At the Gown Garden, assist customers in finding affordable formal wear, semi-formal wear, jewelry, shoes and other items. Assist brides with trying on gowns and finding accessories. Assist with basic boutique maintenance. Assist with incoming donations and help as needed with special events throughout the year. 

Spread awareness of the organization throughout the community. Network with resources and share/speak about our mission with churches, non-profit organizations in and around Allen County and at events. Help distribute information about From This Day Forward and the Gown Garden boutique. 

Dinner Pick Up Driver

This volunteer will graciously donate 1-2 hours of time and the fuel needed to pick up restaurant provided meals that are located a few miles from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana. To be a dinner delivery driver, you must have proof of a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and you must log your hours through Volunteer Center to be covered by their insurance. Supplemental liability insurance is offered by both RMHC and Volunteer Center. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana will gladly work with volunteers during inclement weather. The safety of our volunteers is very important.

Pickups are typically on Wednesdays.  Meal pickups are usually at 5:30 p.m.

Adult life comes with many joys and challenges, as you may have experienced personally. CASS
is looking to provide mentors to help CASS Housing residents navigate life. CASS staff will pair
the mentor with a CASS resident based on interests, personality, and schedules. Mentors will
provide a listening ear, advice, and accountability for reaching goals. Mentorship sessions will be
individualized to the CASS resident, and training will be provided on CASS specific policies and
best practices in communicating and interacting with individuals with disabilities. The goal is for
mentorship sessions to occur on a regular schedule such as biweekly or monthly for a
minimum of one hour per session.

Our garden venue is also in need of some TLC.  It has many plants and trees. The garden venue is in continuous need of weeding, watering, and maintenance. Perfect for families to volunteer together! Can be done at anytime that fits your schedule!

Comfort Cart: 

Support families by offering donated snacks, beverages, toys, and crafts to families without them leaving their child’s room. Volunteers visit the PICU, PEDS, and CCN units in the hospital.

Volunteers with special interests may record videos of patients sharing their life stories, entertain a patient by playing a musical instrument, do yard work, light house cleaning, put up holiday decorations or have a license or certificate to provide special care to patients. Vigil Volunteers visit patients that are nearing death.

Volunteers may choose to visit patients in Columbia City, Fort Wayne, Huntington, Wabash, Auburn, Angola, Kendallville, LaGrange and the surrounding communities in Northeast Indiana.

Requirements: Orientation & training through Parkview Hospice, willing to complete background check, 18 years or older, complete occupational health requirements, and provide necessary documentation required for program. 

Volunteers with certified therapy pets are needed to visit Hospice patients at Extended Care Facilities, community hospitals, or personal residences. Administrative volunteers will assist the care team with general office duties associated with special projects, mailings, filing, organizing, creating hospice admission binders/folders, phones and events. Opportunities are offered at the Huntington office. Some work may be done at volunteer homes.

New moms may choose a homemade knitted or crocheted blanket when visiting A Baby's Closet.  Size approximately 30" by 36".  Moms and their babies love these blankets. Show your creativity! Blankets can be delivered to Associated Churches, 602 E. Wayne St, Fort Wayne, on Monday-Thursday from 8-3 pm and Fri from 8-12.

A Baby's Closet helps families experiencing hardship by providing baby items to safely take care of their children.  Moms earn coupons by going to pre-natal and pediatric appointments, parenting education, and continuing their education. 

Join our volunteer team and make a difference in the lives of young learners in grades K-3! Help students reach grade-level reading through Project Reads, a one-hour after-school program. 

We have 16 school locations across Allen County. Tutors are paired with one elementary student at a designated school for the entire school year. We provide:

As a volunteer, you’ll help students build confidence, spark a love for reading, and set a strong foundation for academic success—all on a schedule that works for you.

Current schools in need of tutors: 

New Haven Primary, New Haven Intermediate, Levan Scott Academy, Lafayette Meadows, Haverhill Elementary, Brentwood, Study, and Irwin. 

As a volunteer, you and another individual will be caring for 2-4 children infant-10 years of age. This allows several of our women to have time to attend Bible Study every Tuesday evening. 

(Because of the sensitive nature of the work we do we do hold a women-only environment. )

Assist in organizing event decor including but not limited to linens, florals, center pieces, and other items stored in our warehouse location. Also, assist with packing, prepping, and pickup/returns of decor rental items. This could include lifting, folding linens, organizing, sorting, inventorying, etc. Work can be done in either The Gown Garden (From This Day Forward) or the warehouse. 

We are in need of food pantry help! Especially Thursdays!

Each Monday (12:00-3:00), Tuesday (9:00-12:00) and Thursday (12:00-3:00), we operate a food pantry. We have seen a major increase in families coming through our doors. We are in need of people to help us distribute to families. You can volunteer for as many or as little hours as you'd like. You can bring your group or even volunteer alone. This process consists of walking customers through our pantry with a shopping cart and helping them make choices.  We'd love to know ahead of time however, if you're in the area, stop in and we'll put you to work :)

Did you know? 190 times a day, American Red Cross volunteers help a family that has lost everything in a disaster. Right here in Indiana, there are 2-3 home fires daily. Other disasters can also occur at any time and at any place affecting our communities.

Description

If you like to drive, this is the opportunity for you! We're looking for volunteers willing to transport supplies and materials across the region. We need volunteer  to be on call when there is a need! Deliveries can take 15 minutes or four hours. They will vary due to upcoming needs. Some routes will be planned on a schedule but others will occur based on needs that pop up. 

A Red Cross vehicle and gas card will be available to you for this position after a Motor Vehicle Report is run and a brief, online, drivers safety training course is complete.

Volunteers of the United With Love Food Pantry assist neighbors with the selection of food products for their households. By providing a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, lean proteins, canned goods, and dairy products, our food pantry aims to alleviate the pressures of accessing healthy food for neighbors in Huntington County. Volunteers assist with the day-to-day activities of the pantry, ensuring a welcoming, well stocked, and hygienic shopping experience. Some Food Pantry volunteers also assist with the collection of food from local donation organizations. 

This particular opening is available on Thursdays from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. for a volunteer to serve weekly in this capacity.
