Volunteer: Kiwanis Apple Dumpling Booth at Johnny Appleseed Festival

The Fort Wayne Downtown Kiwanis Club is in need of volunteers to work its famous Apple Dumpling Booth at the Johnny Appleseed Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21. All funds raised support Kiwanis' projects to benefit kids and families. A major focus this year is on youth mental health and creating more Riley Hospital Mental Health Hubs across the state. Shifs are Saturday: 9:30 - 1 pm and 2-6 pm. Sunday: 9:30 - 1 pm and 1 - 5 pm

There are certain clothes to wear for this event. Here is the info:

EVERYONE: Dark shoes (NO WHITE), no visible logos. Pull back long hair, as you'll be working around food

Ladies: white top, 3/4 to full sleeve, preferably no buttons. Skirts, bonnets & aprons will be provided.

Guys: blue jeans and light-colored teeshirt. Overshirt and hat will be provided.

Volunteer: Knitters/Crocheters Wanted!

Our annual Coats for Kids runs November/December. All year round our volunteers knit/crochet hats and scarves to accompany the over 8,000 coats we hand out to children in need. We have donated yarn at our office that can be picked up for use with this project. Keep those hands busy while watching tv and keeping your social distance! We also accept baby blankets and lap blankets. 

Join us the first Thursday of each month (except September) at 10 am at our office, 3401 Lake Avenue, Suite 4 for fellowship with other knitters/crocheters! Bring a project to work on. Weather notes: if FWCS are closed there will be no group meeting.

Volunteer: Make Cards for Honor Flight Veterans

Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to create thank you cards, letters, drawings, etc. to place in the mail call envelopes for our Veterans to receive during a future Honor Flight. They should simply be addressed Veteran and can be drawn, colored, handwritten, typed... all forms of "Thank You for Your Service" expressions are welcome. These are given to the Veterans on their flight home from their day in Washington where they reflected upon the Memorials built in their honor. The cards will be read, re-read and cherished by those brave men and women who receive them. Cards may be in any medium and envelopes are not required. Cards may be dropped off at our office Monday - Thursday 9 - 4 p.m. or mailed to:

Read aloud a child's book while being filmed to share with the students at MLK Montessori School. Video will take place at the Volunteer Center on Lake Avenue and technology will be handled by the Volunteer Center staff.  You simply need to use your most engaging reading voice and share the pictures in the book with the kids who will be tuning in!
