Volunteer: Activities Volunteer - Kendalville Campus

Bring joy and connection to Lutheran Life Villages - Kendallville. Do you have a caring heart and a little time to share? Our Assisted Living community is looking for warm, compassionate volunteers to help make each day brighter for our residents.

We could use volunteers to come in and read to nonverbal residents. This can really be any time. We could always use volunteers to play a game of some sort in the evenings. We play balloon ball at 4:30 pm every day. On Saturdays, we can have someone come in to help with exercise or play bingo from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m.

We would love to have volunteers spend time one-to-one, listening and reminiscing about the “good old days,” playing piano (or other musical instruments) if you are musically-minded, or helping to facilitate arts and crafts or games with those who call Lutheran Life Villages home.

We’re looking for volunteers who bring empathy, patience, and adaptability, along with a willingness to learn a person-centered approach—one that focuses on building trust, understanding, and genuine connection. Whether you can come once a week or just occasionally, your presence truly makes a difference!

Volunteer: Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

Make a Difference in a Child’s Life – Become a CASA Volunteer

The Allen County CASA Program recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers get to know the child, gather information, and make recommendations to the court about what is in the child’s best interest.

As a CASA volunteer, you’ll be a consistent and supportive presence for a child navigating the foster care system. You’ll help the child understand what’s happening in their case and ensure their voice is heard among a sea of professionals-lawyers, caseworkers, doctors, and judges.

Your advocacy helps judges make informed decisions so children can be placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Beyond court, CASA volunteers often support educational needs, encourage goals, and serve as positive role models. This is more than volunteering, it’s a chance to change a child’s life, and your own.

Exceptions can be made by Volunteer Manager or CHFB Leadership. This is one of the highest poverty zip codes in Indiana at nearly 50% (46803), your efforts will go far here!

The people who frequent this distribution sincerely appreciate your kind spirit, and so do Community Harvest employees!

Bonus CHFB Credit hours! Earn 3 hours credit for Volunteering at this event. That is roughly double time.

On the day you volunteer: Please be aware of the weather forecast and dress accordingly.

Volunteer: Truck Driver/Assistant (No CDL Required)

You'll drive our box truck (no CDL required) to pick up donated furniture and deliver essentials to families leaving crisis situations—domestic violence, homelessness, eviction. A bed frame. A kitchen table. A couch where kids can do homework. You're not just moving furniture; you're helping people rebuild the foundation of home. Volunteer: Merchandise Stocking Volunteer

Every item you tag, price, and display in our Thrift Store does double duty: it provides affordable goods to shoppers, and it funds rent and utility assistance for families facing eviction. 100% of our store profits go directly to keeping roofs over heads across northeast Indiana. That makes this work both practical and urgent—you're preventing homelessness, one donated sweater at a time.

You'll sort and inspect donations, create attractive displays, help customers, keep the store organized, and possibly run the register (with training). Hours are flexible, Monday–Saturday between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Perfect for individuals, friend groups, or workplace volunteer teams. You'll get store discounts as a thank-you, but the real reward is knowing your time translates directly into housing stability.

Volunteer: Food Pantry Volunteer

When someone walks into one of our 12 food pantry locations across Fort Wayne, they're often facing one of the hardest weeks of their life. Your job is simple but powerful: greet them with dignity, help them select nutritious food, and make sure they leave with what they need. You'll stock shelves, pack food boxes, check expiration dates, and keep the pantry organized and welcoming.

The work is physical—lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods—but it's also deeply relational. This is where food insecurity meets human kindness, and you're the bridge.

We have pantries throughout the city, so there's likely one near you. Volunteers must be 18+ (or accompanied by an adult) and complete a brief orientation. Flexible scheduling available.

Want to help feed your neighbors with respect? Fill out our volunteer interest form to find the pantry closest to you and share your availability.

Volunteer: Carpentry & Skilled Labor Volunteer (Carpenter's Sons Ministry)

The Carpenter's Sons Ministry builds ramps, repairs porches, and makes critical home modifications so elderly and disabled neighbors can safely stay in their homes. Every Tuesday morning, we gather for coffee and fellowship, then head out to worksites across the community. You'll use your carpentry skills—or learn them from experienced volunteers—to solve real problems: a wheelchair ramp that restores independence, a repaired step that prevents a fall, a grab bar that makes bathing safe again.

We welcome everyone from seasoned tradespeople to enthusiastic beginners. If you can measure, cut, lift materials, and follow safety protocols, we'll teach you the rest. Many volunteers come as duos or small teams—it's easier to learn and more fun to build together.

Ready to use your hands to rebuild safety and independence? Complete our volunteer interest form and let us know your skill level and availability.

Volunteer: Care Van Driver

Miss an appointment because you don't have a ride, and everything unravels. That's why our Care Van exists—and why we need dependable drivers who can show up with compassion and consistency. You'll transport neighbors to medical appointments and food pantries every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. For many clients, you'll be the first friendly face they see all week.

We provide the state-of-the-art accessible van, the route, and the training. You provide a clean driving record (age 25+), reliability, and the ability to assist passengers in and out of the vehicle. Most drivers serve one week every 8–10 weeks, so it's flexible but committed.

This isn't just driving—it's access to healthcare, food security, and dignity.

Volunteer: JA Finance Park Volunteer

Before their arrival at Lincoln Finance Park, students are prepared in the classroom to participate in a carefully designed simulation that closely resembles real-life budget planning. While visiting, each student will become an adult for the day. All students will be responsible for planning a monthly budget for themselves and their fictional families.  Volunteers will provide guidance to the students as they plan their budgets. Volunteers who offer to assist must participate in an on-site training 30 minutes prior to student arrival on the day of the simulation. This training provides volunteers with the opportunity to understand the in-class program as well as the on-site schedule and procedures. They will gain knowledge and experience about their role in assisting the students. We have volunteer openings for the 2025-2026 school year, contact JA for open dates.

These could be painting, cleaning, building projects, stuffing envelops, or conducting tabletop activities with the visitors. If your group is looking for a fun bonding activity, consider helping out at Science Central. Some supplies (shovels, gloves, scrub brushes, etc.) will need to be provided by your group. Other than exceeding gratefulness, no compensation is made for the use of personal gas, supplies, etc. If your group is looking for a fun bonding activity, consider helping out at Science Central.

Volunteer: Administrative Office Volunteer. See what it takes to run a museum.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run a museum? Science Central has a constant need for administrative help.  While most of the public is aware of our museum and its exhibits, that is only one way in which we further the science education of the public.

We have outreach programs that go out to local schools. We have summer camps that teach various scientific principles and skills. And we have virtual learning that is done world wide. We would never be able to accomplish these goals with the Administrative office.

Our volunteers assist Science Central’s administrative office in all aspects of daily operation. Projects will vary by department. Tasks could include data entry, marketing, envelope stuffing, filing, placing phone calls and answering emails.
