Did you know? 190 times a day, American Red Cross volunteers help a family that has lost everything in a disaster. Right here in Indiana, there are 2-3 home fires daily. Other disasters can also occur at any time and at any place affecting our communities.

Description

If you like to drive, this is the opportunity for you! We're looking for volunteers willing to transport supplies and materials across the region. We need volunteer  to be on call when there is a need! Deliveries can take 15 minutes or four hours. They will vary due to upcoming needs. Some routes will be planned on a schedule but others will occur based on needs that pop up. 

A Red Cross vehicle and gas card will be available to you for this position after a Motor Vehicle Report is run and a brief, online, drivers safety training course is complete.  

Key Responsibilities

Providing transportation assistance for the American Red Cross. Volunteers will be delivering or picking up supplies and materials across the Indiana Region.

Turnstone Center—in partnership with World ParaVolley (WPV), Visit Fort Wayne, and the City of Fort Wayne—will host the 2025 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup from October 12–18, 2025.  This prestigious international event will bring nearly 500 athletes, officials, and delegates from 17 countries to northeast Indiana. By providing a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, lean proteins, canned goods, and dairy products, our food pantry aims to alleviate the pressures of accessing healthy food for neighbors in Huntington County. Volunteers assist with the day-to-day activities of the pantry, ensuring a welcoming, well stocked, and hygienic shopping experience. Some Food Pantry volunteers also assist with the collection of food from local donation organizations. 

This particular opening is available on Thursdays from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. for a volunteer to serve weekly in this capacity.

The United with Love mobile unit travels to Roanoke on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 5-6 pm for food appointments. Volunteer help is needed to load the truck with food in our food pantry, take the truck with food to our neighbors in Roanoke in the parking lot of Seminary United Methodist Church, 285 Seminary Street, and then bring any remaining items back to the food pantry in the truck.

This particular opening is available on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 4-6:30 pm for a volunteer to serve twice a month in this capacity.

We are in need of volunteers to decorate their cars in a family fun fashion at our Trunk or Treat.  Families are welcome to volunteer together.  It is always fun to serve as a family or community.  We will set up the cars in the grass field next to Shepherd of the City church.  The families will walk through the cars to collect candy or other kid safe goodies.  We have had groups passout socks and pj's as well.  The more volunteers we have, the more exciting the event will be.  

During this time we will also be hosting a health fair across the street at the Shepherd's Hand Community Outreach Center.  Families can pick up free diapers, have their blood pressure checked, and recieve their flu shots.

Our food pantry volunteers are asked to commit to serving weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly for 2-4 hours. Days and hours are flexible depending on the nature of the position and your availability.

Volunteer opportunities are available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:30 am - 5 pm and Wednesday and Friday 9:30 am - 1 pm.

We need volunteers for two shifts. The hours will be 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. You can sign up for as little as one shift OR sign up for all of them!

This volunteer opportunity consists of sitting down with clients and writing their children's sizes, ages, wishes, and general household information. The Audio Reading Service's target audience is listeners of all ages who have visual, physical, learning, or language challenges to reading traditional print.  Articles are read and recorded in our studios.

We broadcasts the recorded readings of news and information from over 68 publications!

Assist in organizing event decor including but not limited to linens, florals, center pieces, and other items stored in our warehouse location. Also, assist with packing, prepping, and pickup/returns of decor rental items. This could include lifting, folding linens, organizing, sorting, inventorying, etc. Work can be done in either The Gown Garden (From This Day Forward) or the warehouse. 

Be the eyes and ears of the 4 Mile/10K/Half Marathon course. Help direct the participants at critical points along the course so they don't get lost. Great opportunity to cheer the runners/walkers while ensuring their safety. Also must be able to help in responding to situations. (Exact locations to be assigned individually.)

The Volunteer Center is looking for a volunteer to conduct searches using the National Sex Offenders Public Website as part of our volunteer screening process.

Necessary qualifications:

Interested volunteers will go through an interview process and background check.

We are a local chapter based in Northeast Indiana. We are a very active group and we want you to join our team! We have pillowcase sew days, fabric cutting events, Ironing and packaging cases days. These pillowcases are given to children in pediatric wings of hospitals. Some days we have enough people to do every station.  We appreciate everyone.  This month every station is needed. PLEASE bring your cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter if you have one and plan to cut. I provide 2 cutting stations and 2 ironing stations.

We are a local chapter based in Northeast Indiana. We are a very active group and we would love for you to join our team! 

September is a special month for those involved with Ryan's Case for Smiles.  Chapters all over the USA and 2 chapters in Canada gather and sew a combined goal of 40,000 pillowcase during the month.  This goal reflects the average number of children who undergo cancer treatment in 1 calendar year. These pillowcases are given to children in pediatric wings of hospitals.

We appreciate everyone.  This month every station is needed. PLEASE bring your cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter if you have one and plan to cut. I provide 2 cutting stations and 2 ironing stations.  

We need extra volunteers to pin, iron and package.  Children as young as 8 are encouraged to help with parental supervision.

Please bring your own lunch and closed drink, no red dye or raw onions.

Seed Collection at Eagle Marsh

Wednesday, September 17th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Join us on another short hike to identify and collect seed heads of a few native plant species. Use these seeds to start your own native habitat in your backyard or help restore our preserves by growing plants with us.  Either way, our wild community wins! Please dress appropriately for the weather.  

We'll provide supplies and instruction.  This event will be canceled in the event of rain.

As a volunteer, you and another individual will be caring for 2-4 children infant-10 years of age. This allows several of our women to have time to attend Bible Study every Tuesday evening.

Elara Caring , a leading care provider in the Midwest, is looking for your administrative expertise that is willing to donate their time to assist team members in the Fort Wayne hospice branch. The Lighthouse is a Biblical based Residential program for men with life altering addiction or in crisis.

This position will work alongside our Lead Volunteers, assisting in the store during business hours. Veterans and spouses will be shopping during this time. Various tasks that could be completed include: restocking clothing on shelves and hanging racks, putting clothing on hangers, folding clothing, sorting and stacking in our stockroom, receiving donated items, and identifying items that will go to our partner charities.

This position is predominantly standing, some seated options are available.

This position is located at our Processing Center on IN-930 not our Store on Calhoun St

This position will work alongside our Lead Volunteers to help process clothing donations. Some of the tasks to be completed are: sorting and separating clothing, folding clothing, placing items on hangers, filling storage totes, consolidating items to be donated to a partner charity, and general cleaning and upkeep of the building. 

Primarily standing, accommodations can be made for sitting.

This position is located at our Processing Center on IN-930 not our Store on Calhoun St

There's nothing our residents love more than their bingo time! If you're interested in a 45 min -1 hour long volunteer activity where you bring joy to our wonderfully sassy residents, this is for you! The times and dates are flexible, as we play bingo at all times of the day throughout the week. 

We are looking for a volunteer to manage our supply room. This would include putting away patient supplies, helping keep the supply room organized, and also assisting with ordering supplies and inventory. 

We're on the lookout for talented and passionate wood shop volunteers to join our mission. Together, we’ll create beautiful, handcrafted furniture and wooden toys that will brighten up the lives of families in need.

Our wood shop is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and facilities, and we use them to build a variety of items, from cozy beds and stylish dressers to fun and educational toys. We don’t just make things for ourselves; we donate them to families through our furniture voucher program or sell them at affordable prices in our thrift store. This way, we can help families create a safe and welcoming home environment for everyone.

Volunteers in this role meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays mornings to work on carpentry projects and bond over shared interests. Whether you’re a seasoned woodworker or just starting, we’d love to have you!

Are you a skilled and enthusiastic carpenter looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Join our Carpenter’s Sons Ministry and make a positive impact on the lives of elderly and disabled individuals.

As a Carpenter’s Son, you will get to use your hands-on skills to build and repair structures that directly benefit these amazing people. Imagine helping them feel safer in their homes and making it easier for them to get in and out. It’s a truly rewarding experience!

Our Carpenter’s Sons get together on Tuesday mornings for coffee and fellowship, and then we head out to tackle various home repair projects around the community. And don’t worry if you’re not a seasoned carpenter. The Carpenter’s Sons are always happy to teach and mentor new volunteers, so you can learn and grow alongside experienced professionals.

If you have carpentry skills or experience (professional or hobbyist level is welcome), or if you’re just starting, we’d love to have you on board! Basic knowledge of tools, materials, and construction methods is a plus, but we’re open to learning from you.

Lifting materials and working on feet for extended periods is okay, as long as you have the strength and stamina. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship are essential. Following instructions and working independently or as part of a team is also important.

And the best part? You’ll get to use your talents to directly help those in need, gain satisfaction from hands-on community improvement, and develop and refine your carpentry skills. You’ll also network with other skilled volunteers and tradespeople, and earn community service or volunteer hours.

Join Junior Achievement as an In-School Volunteer and make a lasting impact in your community! As a JA volunteer, you’ll bring real-world knowledge into the classroom, delivering fun, hands-on lessons in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. JA provides all the training, materials, and support—you bring your enthusiasm and life experience.  You don’t need to be a teacher—just someone who wants to make a difference.

Standard Delivery In-School Volunteer:  These volunteers visit a class once a week to deliver the JA program. The number of visits vary depending on the grade level, usually 5-7 visits for 30-45 minutes each. Classes run from Pre-K through 12th grade. Training and materials are provided.

JA In A Day Event Volunteer:  These volunteers deliver the JA program, all sessions in one morning. The entire school has JA volunteers in every classroom. It is a one day only commitment for 4-5 hours. Dates are set up with the schools in advance. Training and materials are provided beforehand.

Before their arrival at Lincoln Finance Park, students are prepared in the classroom to participate in a carefully designed simulation that closely resembles real-life budget planning. While visiting, each student will become an adult for the day. All students will be responsible for planning a monthly budget for themselves and their fictional families.  Volunteers will provide guidance to the students as they plan their budgets. Volunteers who offer to assist must participate in an on-site training 30 minutes prior to student arrival on the day of the simulation. This training provides volunteers with the opportunity to understand the in-class program as well as the on-site schedule and procedures. They will gain knowledge and experience about their role in assisting the students. We have volunteer openings for the 2025-2026 school year, contact JA for open dates. 

JA BizTown® combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to our simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. Volunteering is a one day commitment that includes an on-site training one hour prior to student arrival. Each volunteer will then be assigned a business where they will assist a group of 4-10 students throughout their work tasks and responsibilities. We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable gardener to take the lead in planning and maintaining our garden spaces. This role is ideal for someone interested in leading a fruit and vegetable garden, but some flower planting and planning can also be incorporated. The Lead Gardener will decide what to plant, where, and when, and will create a seasonal care schedule that outlines tasks like watering, weeding, pruning, and harvesting. Once a plan is in place, additional volunteers will be recruited to help carry it out, with the Lead Gardener providing guidance and support. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys both the creative and practical sides of gardening and wants to help our garden thrive year-round. 

**We understand it may be late in the season for much planting, but we’re open to any remaining seasonal tasks and welcome planning ahead for next year’s garden.

While we don’t require you to accommodate specific dietary needs, guests are always welcome to prepare something else from the pantry if needed.

At the Gown Garden, assist customers in finding affordable formal wear, semi-formal wear, jewelry, shoes and other items. Assist brides with trying on gowns and finding accessories. Girls on the Run Northeast Indiana is looking for volunteers for its end of season final 5K celebration.  The event will take place on Sunday November 23rd at Shoaff Park in Fort Wayne, IN.  The festivities begin at 1:00pm with the 5K kicking off at 3:00pm. 

We are looking for individuals to help with set up, clean up, managing the water station, and placing medals on finishers.  We also need volunteers to staff our pre-5K activities including happy hair, bling your bib, friendship bracelets, and inspiration station.  All materials will be provided for you.

Power House is a Christian youth center in New Haven that offers after school programming for 7th-12th grade students.  We offer a healthy snack, homework help, life skills classes, free time for the youth, and then provide dinner for the students every night.  Volunteers would engage with students, having conversations with them, and engage in the activities that are taking place.  We are searching for volunteers that would be able to commit to 1 afternoon a week, or every other week.

The volunteer process is fairly simple.  There is a short application, and 2 hour training for new volunteers.  Since we work directly with youth, there is a background check that will be completed as well.

Wednesday evenings (the second and fourth each month), Journey Beside Mothers hosts events for moms to attend. Our Great Moms Club is open to any mom and childcare is needed for preschool aged children while we offer the moms community, enrichment and support. The childcare will be from 5:50 - 7:30. A light meal will be provided. A background check is required. We welcome ages 16+ to volunteer. 

We are looking for someone who would like to serve the ladies in our community by painting their nails on Sunday afternoons! We never miss nail day, and with our growing community, we are running out of hands-pun intended! You do not have to be a professional or a perfectionist, our ladies will just be happy that their nails are being done! If this is something you would be interested in, please respond!

The time of day currently is 2pm, but times on Sundays and Saturdays are flexible. 

We are in need of food pantry help!

Each Monday (12:00-3:00), Tuesday (9:00-12:00) and Thursday (12:00-3:00), we operate a food pantry. We have seen a major increase in families coming through our doors. We are in need of people to help us distribute to families. You can volunteer for as many or as little hours as you'd like. You can bring your group or even volunteer alone. This process consists of walking customers through our pantry with a shopping cart and helping them make choices.  We'd love to know ahead of time however, if you're in the area, stop in and we'll put you to work :)

Repair formal and semi-formal dresses as needed. Repairing of items could include zippers, button, and hems. Dresses can be picked up at The Gown Garden and taken home to be mended. 

We welcome your assistance in keeping our Saturday weekly YLNI Summer Farmer's Market running smoothly and looking good! Volunteers would help wipe down tables, check on and empty trash cans, offer water to our musicians and supporting police officers. We hope to continue each Saturday outside through the end of October so dress according for the weather. It's a great way to be outdoors with community and find some great goodies along the way! Suggested parking next to Cottage Flowers. 

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Our nonprofit learning center (located in northwest Fort Wayne) is in need of a regular (weekly or biweekly) visit from a plant-loving volunteer.  We’re looking for someone from April through October who has experience with pruning, light weeding, and giving advice on keeping our outdoor environment looking its best.  Garden tools & supplies provided onsite. We are in need of a volunteer who can help with scanning, filing and calling patients to remind them of their appointments. If you can speak Spanish that is an added bonus! Hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, either morning or afternoon, 3-4 hour shifts. 

The Family Lounge volunteer will help to register first-time visitors, answer questions families have about Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana, stock snacks and donated items, and provide access to the courtyard.

We also accept baby blankets and lap blankets.

Heart to Heart Hospice is looking for a volunteer to come into our office and assist with cleaning. This would include helping clean our kitchenette, tables and floors, vacuuming, taking out the trash, and dusting. If you enjoy cleaning, this is the volunteer opportunity for you! Never cooked a lasagna before? We have a kind group of volunteers who will support you and share their recipes. 

As a Lasagna Love Chef, you will cook and deliver a lasagna entrée to your matched family on a mutually agreeable date and time. You can also offer another option in lieu of lasagna so the family can choose but that’s up to you. 

There is a Lasagna Love volunteer website portal with many resources including training videos, recipes, delivery notices, and so much more.  The portal is how you find out information about your "match" so you have control over the timing of your delivery. Meet and assist families with babies and young children at A Baby's Closet (ABC).  As a volunteer at ABC, you will greet families and provide customer service to our clients.  Volunteers should possess a cooperative, loving attitude and be able to work closely with staff, other volunteers, and customers.  You may choose to volunteer weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. Volunteers must first meet with the ABC Director or the Volunteer Coordinator before volunteering. (How does ABC work? ABC provides essential baby items to mothers and fathers who receive education about nutrition, parenting, and prenatal care.  Coupons are received from service providers to be used for items at ABC.)

The Needs Closet Organizer will assist with the regular upkeep of our residential needs, clothing, and/or linen closets. Responsibilities may be shared among more than one volunteer.

The Empowerment Boutique Coordinator will be responsible for the regular upkeep of the Empowerment Boutique, which contains the gifts and other small items that clients can earn as a part of our Environment Empowerment Program.

The Empowerment Boutique Coordinator must demonstrate a commitment to serving YWCA NEIN’s clients and upholding the YWCA mission.

This is an on-site volunteer position. Lifting of heavy boxes may be required.

Tasks may include talking, reading, listening and providing emotional support to the hospice patient and family. Volunteers with special interests may record videos of patients sharing their life stories, entertain a patient by playing a musical instrument, do yard work, light house cleaning, put up holiday decorations or have a license or certificate to provide special care to patients. Vigil Volunteers visit patients that are nearing death.

Volunteers may choose to visit patients in Columbia City, Fort Wayne, Huntington, Wabash, Auburn, Angola, Kendallville, LaGrange and the surrounding communities in Northeast Indiana.

Requirements: Orientation & training through Parkview Hospice, willing to complete background check, 18 years or older, complete occupational health requirements, and provide necessary documentation required for program.

Helpers may sew, knit or crochet items for patients and families such as gowns, stuffed bears, lap throws, shawls, washable bed pads and walker bags. Helpers do not see patients or confidential information, so they are not required to attend any training.
