Volunteer Opportunities From: Volunteer Center

We are looking for volunteers at our Cheers for Wishes event. At Cheers for Wishes, you'll hear inspiring wish stories and help bring hope, strength, and joy to kids through the power of the wish. Our team needs volunteers to assist with light setup, registration, accepting donations, and light cleanup.

Parking: The most convenient parking can be found in the free lot directly west of The Pearl Event Center and the paid STAR Financial Bank parking garage off of Maiden Lane. Both the venue and the garage are new construction so they may not be accurately represented on your map street view. Our staff has always parked at the free lot next to The Pearl and never had an issue with space availability. 

First Thursday of each month from 10:00 am to Noon

Volunteer with us to keep our wildlife safe and our preserves clean.  We'll be picking up trash along Engle Road on the 1st Thursday of each month, from 10 am - Noon.  Wear close-toed shoes and long pants.  We'll provide safety vests, gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers and snacks!  Meet us at the Gateway (gravel) Parking Lot at 6801 Engle Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 and help make a difference in your community!

First Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Join us, and other volunteers in the community, at Hop River Brewing Company (1515 N Harrison Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46808) for an evening of stewardship and volunteering! This is a great way to support us at Little River Wetlands Project and a local brewery. This is an all-ages venue, so children are welcome. If you don't enjoy beer, that's okay, they have plenty of good food and non-alcoholic beverages too.

At Heart to Heart Hospice, we know there are different ways to
show care for our terminally ill patients, and sometimes we are
able to involve a very special pet. Pets, through animal-assisted
therapy, provide faithful companionship, comfort and affection.

How can they interact with hospice patients?

•Sitting quietly near a patient, so the patient can enjoy their presence
•Playing fetch with a patient, going after a ball or toy
•Being talked to, petted, or held, per patient preference
•Enjoying performing tricks, such as 'roll over' 'sit' or 'shaking hands'

There are proven benefits to hospice pet therapy for those at
the end-of-life. Benefits can include:

•Helping reduce physical pain
•Providing calm, with a relaxing and understanding presence

We are looking for someone to share their musical talents with our hospice patients and families. Currently, this would mean going into someone's home or a nursing facility (nursing home or assisted living facility) with a mask on and playing music. Patients enjoy music and would love for you to share your talent with them! We'd love to have you join our team.

Offer a steady, caring presence to patients so their loved ones can step away and recharge. Whether you’re listening, sharing quiet companionship, or simply sitting nearby, your presence helps ease loneliness during a challenging time. Beyond spending time with patients, this role may also involve light administrative duties such as answering phone calls, welcoming visitors, organizing paperwork, and assisting staff with everyday tasks. These supportive efforts help maintain a warm, organized setting for patients, families, and the care team.

From time to time, Heart to Heart Hospice cares for patients who don’t have family close by, or whose loved ones need to step away briefly but don’t want them to be alone during their final moments. We are looking for someone with a flexible schedule who can sit with a patient near the end of life, offering comfort simply through their presence. This role is best suited for a compassionate individual who is comfortable providing support and presence during the end-of-life journey.

New moms may choose a homemade knitted or crocheted blanket when visiting A Baby's Closet.  Size approximately 30" by 36".  Moms and their babies love these blankets. Show your creativity! Blankets can be delivered to Associated Churches, 602 E. Wayne St, Fort Wayne, on Monday-Thursday from 8-3 pm and Fri from 8-12.

A Baby's Closet helps families experiencing hardship by providing baby items to safely take care of their children.  Moms earn coupons by going to pre-natal and pediatric appointments, parenting education, and continuing their education. 

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am - noon or 10 am - 1 pm. A Baby's Closet needs help getting the store ready for customers. This includes counting baby clothing items, hanging clothes, and putting outfits together. If you love baby clothes, you will love this opportunity.

Wednesday evenings (the second and fourth each month), Journey Beside Mothers hosts events for moms to attend. Our Great Moms Club is open to any mom and childcare is needed for preschool aged children while we offer the moms community, enrichment and support. The childcare will be from 5:50 pm- 7:30 pm. A light meal will be provided. A background check is required. We welcome ages 16+ to volunteer.

Meet and assist families with babies and young children at A Baby's Closet (ABC).  As an ABC, volunteer, you will greet families and provide customer service to our clients.  Volunteers should possess a cooperative, loving attitude and be able to work closely with staff, other volunteers, and customers.  You may choose to volunteer weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. Volunteers must first meet with the ABC Director or the Volunteer Coordinator before volunteering. (How does ABC work? ABC provides essential baby items to mothers who receive prenatal care, attend childbirth classes, take their children to well-child appointments, and keep immunizations up-to-date.  Coupons are received from service providers to be used for items at ABC.)

The House of Pins is a uniquely inclusive recreational space, operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. As the only private sensory-friendly recreational venue with both a bowling alley and a sensory room, we offer a range of adaptive amenities designed to support individuals with diverse disabilities. We offer monthly community outreach events. Canvas and Cupcakes is a monthly Saturday event designed for our guests to express their creativity. Join us for a morning of guided painting for all abilities to shine and of course don't forget the delicious cupcakes to refuel us! Volunteers are needed to encourage and assist our guests.

We will be pinning, sewing, surging, ironing and packing washed pillowcases to deliver.

Please bring everything you use to sew at home.  We provide the fabric, 2 cutting and 2 ironing stations. If you own a serger please bring it instead of your machine.  

Bring your friends who do not sew, they will be tasked with pinning kits and ironing cases. Many hands make light work.

The Audio Reading Service provides audio access to printed information for listeners of all ages who have visual, physical, learning, or language challenges to reading printed materials.

We record more than 50 different programs, including readings from over 130 newspapers, magazines, and other sources. Audio recordings are available via broadcast and online. 

Materials are read and recorded in our studios. An interview and reading audition are required.

Our current opportunities include:

• Read and record programs when a regular reader is absent by becoming a Substitute Recorded Reader. Subs receive a weekly email notification of upcoming opportunities to cover a program, and may select opportunities that fit your schedule and interests. Materials are read from hard copy and digital touchscreen tablet. Programs are either 30 minutes or one hour of recording, within a 90-minute recording session timeslot. We can work with your schedule, Monday-Friday between 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Training will be provided.

• Become a Substitute Live Reader, reading the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette live on the air with an experienced partner. Subs receive a weekly email notification of upcoming opportunities to cover for a regular live reader’s absence. Each live broadcast opportunity is a 3-hour session that occurs on a weekday from 8:00 am - 11:00 am, or on a Saturday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. You may select an opportunity that fits your schedule. Training includes observing and participating in live broadcasts for 2-3 mornings in a row prior to your first scheduled sub reading.

• Read and record Spanish-language programs when a regular reader is absent by becoming a Spanish-language Substitute Recorded Reader. Volunteers for these programs must be fluent in reading and speaking both Spanish and English. Subs receive a weekly email notification of upcoming opportunities to cover a program, and may select opportunities that fit your schedule and interests. Materials are read from hard copy and digital touchscreen tablet. Programs are usually 30 minutes or one hour of recording, within a 90-minute recording session timeslot. Ronald McDonald House volunteers keep our program running smoothly 365 days a year.  A Volunteer is often the first face a family sees when they arrive.  Volunteers keep the Ronald McDonald House tidy and welcoming, and assist guests through their stay. We are in particular need for volunteers for a volunteer every Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.,or  6 - 9 p.m. as well as every other Wednesday from 6 - 9 p.m.

Arabfest is hosting their 10th Annual Event June 6 and 7 and needs YOUR help! Volunteer opportunities abound for Greeters, Assisting Children with Crafts, Camel Attendant, Food Line Attendant, and assistance with Setting up and Tearing Down. This role is centered around something simple but meaningful: being there for our guests. Our families are walking through long, often overwhelming days at the hospital, and coming back to a warm, welcoming space (and a kind, helpful person) can make all the difference.

Care & Comfort Crew volunteers are that presence. Greeting guests, helping answer questions, light cleaning or cooking, lending a hand where needed, and just creating a sense of calm and care throughout the home. It’s less about big tasks and more about being there, whenever they need someone. 

Shifts are 4 hours (8am–12pm or 12pm–4pm), Monday–Friday, and we’re hoping for a weekly or bi-monthly commitment. If you’re interested in serving but need a small adjustment to one of these timeframes, we still encourage you to apply — we’re happy to explore whether a consistent alternative can work. 

All Care and Comfort Crew volunteers are required to attend an orientation and training prior to their first shift.

Dinner Pick Up Driver

This volunteer will graciously donate 1-2 hours of time and the fuel needed to pick up restaurant provided meals that are located a few miles from Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana. To be a dinner delivery driver, you must have proof of a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and you must log your hours through Volunteer Center to be covered by their insurance. Supplemental liability insurance is offered by both RMHC and Volunteer Center. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana will gladly work with volunteers during inclement weather. The safety of our volunteers is very important.

Pickups are on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.  We also have pick up opportunities every other month on the first Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. and the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 a.m.

Comfort Cart: 

Support families by offering donated snacks, beverages, toys, and crafts to families without them leaving their child’s room. Volunteers visit the PICU, PEDS, and CCN units in the hospital.

Classes:

Volunteers are invited to share their talents by teaching a new skill to our guests. Whether you have experience in crocheting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, or another creative or practical skill, we welcome the opportunity for you to lead a class.

Teaching a skill not only provides a meaningful activity but also empowers our guests, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of community. Volunteers should be patient, encouraging, and prepared to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all participants.

Help is needed on Monday and Tuesday mornings 8 am - 12 pm, assisting with front desk responsibilities. Volunteer can choose to work one day or both. Duties include answering phones, allowing guests access into the building, distributing medication, and supporting the distribution of hygiene items as needed.

This role also involves actively assisting guests with their needs while maintaining a professional, welcoming, and positive demeanor. A pleasant and approachable attitude is essential to ensure guests feel supported and respected at all times.

Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Northeast Indiana Base Community Council will host its 12th Annual Race for the Warrior 5k Run, Walk, Ruck, Roll at the Fort Wayne International Airport. This is an event to raise money for the military support fund that grants emergency financial aid to active duty military personnel based or residing in Northeast Indiana.

Volunteers are needed for pre and post race set up/tear down, swag bag creation, packet pickup, parking, social media, kids race, race course attendants, provide water to runners and much, much more.

Guests will be exploring time with various instruments and ending with a musical game. Volunteers are needed to provide support to each guest, offering encouragement and inviting participation. When We Need You:
Tuesdays & Saturdays, 10–11:30 AM – Join us for lively Bingo fun and friendly conversation!
Wednesdays–Fridays, 2–3:30 PM – Help out with Noodle Ball and other movement games, fingernail painting, and cheerful happy hour gatherings.

We also would love to have volunteers spend time one-to-one, listening and reminiscing about the “good old days”, polisging and painting fingernails, or playing piano (or other musical instruments) for our friends.

We’re looking for volunteers who bring empathy, patience, and adaptability, along with a willingness to learn a person-centered approach—one that focuses on building trust, understanding, and genuine connection. Whether you can come once a week or just occasionally, your presence truly makes a difference!

The Wellspring Shoppe is a clothing boutique that supplies free clothing to over 3,500 individuals a year. We receive donations year-round and need help sorting and stocking our boutique and also helping with clients as they shop in our boutique.  This is a great opportunity for anyone that loves organizing, fashion and customer service! 

The Shoppe hours are Mondays from 10:00am-2:00pm, Tuesdays from 2:30-6:00pm, Thursdays from 10:00am-2:00pm, and the second Saturday of each month from 9:00am-1:00pm.  You can help for just an hour or two, or for the whole 4 hours.  You can volunteer as much or little as you would like to and still make a difference.

Our mobile food pantry (Wellspring on Wheels) serves every Tues/Thurs/Fri from 10am-12pm at pre selected sites around the county. This is a opportunity to volunteer as much or little as you want while still making a difference.

We are looking for kind and compassionate people to help serve the food insecure. Volunteers will help bag food for clients and help with set- up and tear down of the mobile food pantry. 

We feed over 200 families every month in our mobile food pantry. We look forward to connecting with you.

The Children's Needs Closet Organizer will assist with the regular upkeep of our residential needs, clothing, and/or linen closets. Responsibilities may be shared among more than one volunteer. 

The Needs Closet Organizer must demonstrate a commitment to serving YWCA NEIN’s clients and upholding the YWCA mission.

This is an on-site volunteer position.

Roles & Duties:

Organizing and arranging items in basement storage room

Receive and put away donations for the children's storage room

Cleaning out and discarding unusable items

Keeping detailed inventory to send to staff

Communicating supply needs to staff

Ronald McDonald House volunteers keep our program running smoothly 365 days a year. A volunteer is often the first face a family sees when they arrive. Volunteers keep Ronald McDonald House tidy and welcoming, and assist guests throughout  their stay. 

We are currently looking for volunteers for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m.

Provide a Fresh Start (Overnight & Bedding):

Laundry & Linens: Manage laundry from overnight bedding so every guest has clean, soft sheets.

Room Reset: Sweep, mop, and sanitize overnight rooms and beds to ensure a healthy environment for children and parents.

Bedding Packs: Assemble and prep bedding packs (tucking a fitted and flat sheet inside a pillowcase) so new arrivals have everything they need for a good night's rest.

Create a Warm Welcome: Help us sort community donations or use your skills for interior painting and deep-cleaning projects to keep our shelter a healthy environment.

Be a Friendly Voice: Assist our team by periodically answering phones between 9 am – 5 pm to connect those in need with life-changing resources.

Support the Mission: Help with the upkeep of our administrative building, ensuring our staff can focus on serving families effectively.

For a family in crisis, the first night at Just Neighbors is the first time they can finally breathe. We believe every family deserves to walk into a space that feels like a fresh start—clean, cozy, and prepared with love.

Because the need in our community is so high, we often transition new families into rooms within just 12 hours of a move-out. We are looking for Room Adoption Volunteers to help us make this quick turnaround possible.

As a volunteer, you’ll "reset" a private room by cleaning, touching up paint, and ensuring safety features like outlet plugs are ready. You’ll then style the room with new bedding, towels, and hygiene kits so the next family feels truly welcomed.

Bonus: Groups or individuals who donate the new bedding and hygiene items help our resources go even further!

Will you help us provide a soft landing for a family in need?

Assist as needed with special events, fundraisers, events taking place in our garden venue, helping in our warehouse, assisting at The Gown Garden, and wherever help is needed.  We are flexible with volunteers hours. There are lots of opportunities to match your skills and interests.

Primary responsibility is to spread awareness about the organization throughout the community. Network with resources and share/speak about our mission with churches, non-profit organizations in and around Allen County and at events. Help distribute information about From This Day Forward, the Gown Garden boutique and the Bridge and Brook Garden venue.  Hours are flexible and can be virtual.

Our garden venue is outdoors and is in need of ongoing maintenance.  There are  many plants and trees. This is perfect for families to volunteer together! Can be done at anytime that fits your schedule!

Repair bridal, formal and semi-formal dresses as needed. Repairing of items could include zippers, button and hems. Dresses can be picked up at The Gown Garden boutique and taken home to be mended.

Girls on the Run Northeast Indiana is looking for volunteers for our end of season 5K happening on Sunday May 17th at Shoaff Park in Fort Wayne.  This culminating event will bring together over 150 girls and their families to celebrate the end of our spring season.

There are many opportunities for volunteers to help make this experience one to remember for the girls.

Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer’s Association services. Community Representatives represent the Association at fairs, tabling events, and other community events and also deliver brief Awareness Presentations to the community/partner organizations. These presentations/events can be scheduled by Association Staff, but Community Representatives are empowered to set up their own engagements, using their own community connections, with staff support.

Community Educators are volunteer speakers who help provide education and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs. Community Educators deliver Alzheimer's Association programs on topics related to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias using prepared materials. These programs can be both in-person and virtual.

These volunteers provide programs scheduled by Association staff and help identify potential community partners and education venues using their established community networks. They are also empowered to schedule presentations themselves, with support from Association staff. Community educators assure that the general public, caregivers and people living with Alzheimer's or dementia are linked to Alzheimer's Association programs and our free 24/7 Helpline. They are true partners with our staff and extend the reach of our programs to all communities.

Community Educator Volunteer Role Description

The Volunteer Ranch Groundskeepers assist with maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of the ranch property. This role supports routine grounds care, seasonal projects, and occasional minor repairs to ensure the ranch remains clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors, staff, volunteers, and animals.Qualifications

Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Basic maintenance or handyman skills helpful but not required

Our residents greatly enjoy activities such as light exercises, bingo, card games, crafts, sports, and baking — and your time and energy can make a meaningful difference in their day. Pickup returned orders from the Gown Garden and take to warehouse for unpacking. This could include lifting, folding linens, organizing items, sorting, inventorying, etc.  Hours are flexible.

Volunteers doing laundry wash, dry, fold, sort, and operate equipment.  Volunteers doing dishes wash, run dishes though the dishwasher, dry and put dishes away.  Laundry volunteer may also take breaks to socialize with our adoption cats. Thank you for your consideration! Before volunteering, you will be required to complete an application and go through training. You will receive further directions once you respond. 

From This Day Forward is looking for someone who can help us with marketing our organization including social media.  Our website describes who we are, our mission statement and services.  Hours are flexible.

Seeking someone to join our team to focus on our Create for a Cause projects. Over the years, we have accumulated craft supplies and would like to share our surplus supplies with organizations who would be able to recycle the items into something creative.  We also hold our own events where we gather crafters to help make items so that they can be donated to those in need.  Duties would include but be limited to organizing events and finding agencies who are in need of our surplus craft supplies. Volunteer hours are flexible.

At the Gown Garden, assist customers in finding affordable formal wear, semi-formal wear, jewelry, shoes and other items. Assist brides with finding their 'Say YES to the dress' gown and accessories. Assist with basic boutique upkeep including incoming donations. Help as needed with special events throughout the year. Hours are flexible.

United With Love office volunteers assist the Office Manager in many positions. Available volunteer positions include receptionist, interviewer, and processor.  The receptionist is generally the first point of contact for our neighbors in need. The receptionist receives requests for help, the interviewer screens the requests, verifies the need, and then refers the request to a United with Love program or ministry, church ministry, or community agency. The processor then records the information gathered during the interview process and the outcomes and referrals made. After the initial assistance, a specialized United With Love interviewer follows up to ensure the need was met and offers continued support in the form of prayer, additional referrals, and potentially even one-to-one coaching.

This particular opportunity is for Wednesdays from 9 am-1 pm.

Volunteers of the United With Love Food Pantry assist neighbors with the selection of food products for their households. By providing a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, lean proteins, canned goods, and dairy products, our food pantry aims to alleviate the pressures of accessing healthy food for neighbors in Huntington County. Volunteers assist with the day-to-day activities of the pantry, ensuring a welcoming, well stocked, and hygienic shopping experience. Some Food Pantry volunteers also assist with the collection of food from local donation organizations. 

This particular opening is a need for a food pantry receptionist. The food pantry receptionist greets neighbors as they enter the food pantry for appointments, has neighbors sign needed paperwork, and processes their paperwork in print and in the computer system. This opening is available on Tuesdays from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. for a volunteer to serve weekly in this capacity.
