Countdown to Noon is our annual event that happens on December 31st in celebration of the new year. This year's event will feature two big drops of balloons, one at Noon and one at 2 PM, and many fun activities throughout the day. We could use your help to make this event great for everyone!
First, we need a lot of balloons filled. I need five or so volunteers on Tuesday, December 27th from 10am until around 1/2pm. For the full 3-4 hours, all five volunteers will be using an air pump with multiple ports to fill up many balloons at a time, tying up those balloons, and putting them in large bags to store. We need someone exceptional at tying balloons as there will be many to tie! Please be aware the balloons are latex. If this timeframe doesn’t work for you, let us know and we will make arrangements for a shift that works for you. Keep in mind that we can’t have this shift too far away from the event or they will deflate. Feel free to bring music, an audiobook, or a friend to help pass the time!
Second, we need some help before the event to set up. We could use help either Friday evening or Saturday morning to suspend all of our balloons and the giant sheets in which they will be placed. Facilities might even need additional help rigging the ribbon cutting mechanisms so all the balloons fall properly during the event.
Third, we need help during the event. The education department will have activities throughout the day and we need help with facilitating those. You can help visitors with a scavenger hunt and make maracas and smokestack hats. The details of these activities are still being worked out. We also need help with releasing the balloons all at Noon. It'll take a lot of scissor power to do this! We are open from 10am-3pm this day so shifts can be 1-3 hour increments in that time frame. If you're working with the public, an interview and background check will be scheduled.
