FWMoA Children’s Docents are trained volunteers who lead school groups, Pre-K and up, through museum exhibitions. Beyond just guiding tours, docents facilitate student learning, helping to create personal connections that promote a lifelong love of art and museums. Nearly 7,000 children experience the Fort Wayne Museum of Art each year through school field trips and tours. Our community of dedicated, enthusiastic docents make this possible. Docents are supported directly by FWMoA Children’s Education staff and also benefit from the expertise of the curatorial team, with regular talks from Chief Curator and CEO Charles Shepard. Docents receive continuous training on FWMoA’s permanent collection and rotating exhibitions as well as teaching strategies to enrich their tours. No prior experience with art or children is necessary!
Meetings are held every other Monday morning at 10:00.
Docents sign up for tours at meetings according to their availability. Tours last an hour and occur Tuesday-Friday, most frequently during the morning, with occasional evening and weekend opportunities.
