We are looking for compassionate volunteers who are willing to be available on an as-needed basis to support hospice patients who may not have family present or whose regular volunteer is temporarily unavailable. Our hospice program serves patients throughout Northeastern Indiana.
Situations where help may be needed include:
- Vigil / “11th Hour” visits: Sitting with a patient who is nearing the end of life so they are not alone.
- Patients without family: Providing quiet companionship for individuals who may not have loved ones nearby during their final days.
- Coverage visits: Filling in when a patient’s regular volunteer cannot make their monthly visit due to emergencies or scheduling conflicts.
What volunteers do:
- Offer a calm, comforting presence
- Sit quietly, hold a hand, read, play music, or simply be there
- Provide reassurance and dignity at an important moment in someone’s life
What to expect:
- Calls may come on short notice, especially for vigil visits
- Volunteers may accept or decline based on their availability
- Training and guidance will be provided
If you have a compassionate heart and a little flexibility in your schedule, this role can make a meaningful difference for someone at the end of life.
