Volunteer: Gifts of Hope Christmas Program

Wrap gifts, help clients shop, or keep our Christmas shop maintained during our annual Christmas Program located in Southeast Fort Wayne.

Help Christmas Program clients shop for gifts for their children.Walk through the Christmas Shop with clients and ensure they select the appropriate items per child.Help clients load their chosen gifts into their vehicle.If client desires, help clients wrap Christmas gifts.

When: Available dates to volunteer are December 5th (set up 9am-10:30am only), 8th-11th, and 15th-17th. Shifts run from 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, and 3pm-5pm.

Volunteer: Handy Person Needed - Fix Carts!

We have 3-4 carts in our office that have been well used and need a little fixing up as we would like to continue using them! We are in need of a trusted handy person to help us out with this.

Job includes fixing:

squeaky wheelswobbly cartsloose screws

We have a basic tool kit but would appreciate you bringing any tools or materials you think would be necessary!

Scheduling is flexible anytime during our office hours of 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-12pm on Fridays.

Location: Catholic Charities Office; 915 S. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802

Schedule: Flexible, 4 hours/week

Commitment: 4 hours/week for 3 months or more

Volunteer Position Description: We are seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers to help empower individuals and families by providing support in accessing assistance and building self-sufficiency. Volunteers will assist with appointment coordination, gathering information, and providing resources.

Key Responsibilities

·      Interact with clients over the phone, email, and in person.

·      Gather basic information from client about their situation.

 Maintain confidentiality and comply with program guidelines and requirements.

 

Qualifications

Prefer bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, or related fields, or relevant experience. Strong communication skills and a friendly, empathetic approach. Comfort using computers, email, and basic Microsoft Office tools.

 

Training & Support Provided

Orientation to the organization and program. On-the-job training with staff supervision. Ongoing support and resources for volunteer development.

 

Additional Note: Minimum of 4 hours per week during standard office hours. We ask volunteers to keep a consistent weekly schedule whenever possible.

Catholic Charities in Fort Wayne is looking for volunteer drivers to help provide transportation to our refugee clients.  Many of our refugee clients do not have access to transportation, making it difficult to run errands such as going to the grocery store or the bank, going to job interviews, or even going to the gym. As a volunteer driver, you can have a positive impact on our refugee clients as they settle into the Fort Wayne community.  The schedule is based on when volunteers are available to provide round trip transportation. The volunteer would use their own personal vehicle and gas. 

Interested volunteers must meet the following requirements:

Be at least 21 years of agePossess a valid driver’s license and current license and vehicle registrationHave appropriate insurance requirements for vehicle in place ($100,000/$300,000)Undergo a Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR)Take our online training: Defensive Driving Training “Be Smart—Drive Safe”, as well as attend volunteer orientation and other trainings as needed.
