From time to time, Heart to Heart Hospice cares for patients who don’t have family close by, or whose loved ones need to step away briefly but don’t want them to be alone during their final moments. We are looking for someone with a flexible schedule who can sit with a patient near the end of life, offering comfort simply through their presence. This role is best suited for a compassionate individual who is comfortable providing support and presence during the end-of-life journey.

Offer a steady, caring presence to patients so their loved ones can step away and recharge. Your compassion and attentiveness bring comfort and reassurance to families who give so much of themselves as caregivers. Whether you’re listening, sharing quiet companionship, or simply sitting nearby, your presence helps ease loneliness during a challenging time. Beyond spending time with patients, this role may also involve light administrative duties such as answering phone calls, welcoming visitors, organizing paperwork, and assisting staff with everyday tasks. These supportive efforts help maintain a warm, organized setting for patients, families, and the care team.

We are looking for compassionate volunteers who are willing to be available on an as-needed basis to support hospice patients who may not have family present or whose regular volunteer is temporarily unavailable. Our hospice program serves patients throughout Northeastern Indiana.

Heart to Heart Hospice is looking for compassionate volunteers to help support patients and families through weekly check-in calls.

As a Tuck-In Call Volunteer, you will make friendly phone calls to patients or their caregivers to ensure they feel supported and prepared for the days ahead. These calls help our care team confirm that patients are comfortable, have the supplies they need, and know they are not alone.

We are looking for someone to share their musical talents with our hospice patients and families. Currently, this would mean going into someone's home or a nursing facility (nursing home or assisted living facility) with a mask on and playing music. Patients enjoy music and would love for you to share your talent with them! We'd love to have you join our team.

This opportunity is specific for people that can serve in Wells County.

A hospice patient companion volunteer is someone who provides non-medical, compassionate support to people receiving hospice care, typically near the end of life. Their primary role is to offer presence, comfort, and emotional support to patients and sometimes their families.

What They Do:

They do not provide medical care, administer medications, or perform clinical duties.

At Heart to Heart Hospice, we know there are different ways to
show care for our terminally ill patients, and sometimes we are
able to involve a very special pet. Pets, through animal-assisted
therapy, provide faithful companionship, comfort and affection.

How can they interact with hospice patients?

•Sitting quietly near a patient, so the patient can enjoy their presence
•Playing fetch with a patient, going after a ball or toy
•Being talked to, petted, or held, per patient preference
•Enjoying performing tricks, such as 'roll over' 'sit' or 'shaking hands'

the end-of-life. Benefits can include:

•Helping reduce physical pain
•Providing calm, with a relaxing and understanding presence
•Promoting improved heart rate and cardiovascular health
•Increasing overall comfort
•Helping facilitate range of motion and strength
•Reducing feelings of loneliness, depression, agitation, and anxiety
