Who We Are

The mission of the Power House is to provide the youth of the community with positive alternatives to negative behaviors in a safe, drug free environment surrounded by caring, Christian adults. Power House staff and volunteers work to carry out our mission by impacting student lives relationally, spiritually, and for life. Our History: Established in 1995, The Power House Youth Center is dedicated to providing the youth of our community with a positive alternative to negative behaviors in a safe, drug free environment surrounded by caring Christian adults. During the past 27 years, over 6,000 members have participated in our programs. Our top priority is to walk alongside these young people through the good, the bad, and everything in betwee during middle and high school. It is amazing to see the impact that a caring adult can have in the lives of young people.

What We Do

With dedicated staff and volunteers, Power House exemplifies Christian values by expressing unconditional love to those that need it the most, so the organization can empower its students to succeed, as well as provide a sense of healthy community. Power House provides after school programming for area 7th - 12th grade students. We pick the students up from New Haven Middle and High School each day after school and provide a them with a healthy snack. After snack, there is an option. Each afternoon there are at least 2 options for the students to participate in: the first option in always getting help with homework, the second option is a life skill. These life skills include (but are not limited to) sewing, cooking/baking, art, goal and decision making tools, identifying your emotions and healthy ways to manage them, how to be an assertive communicator and an active listener, and the dangers of drug and alcohol use. We also partner with local businesses and schools to have speakers come in every Thursday to talk to the students about various career opportunities and the steps it takes to go into certain fields. After option time, there is free time for the students to play games, basketball, or to just spend time with friends and our staff. At the end of each day Power House is able to provide a hot meal for each of the students, and even food for the students to take home to their families. During our summer programming we offer the students breakfast, have a devotion with them, serive in the community in the morning, provide them with lunch, and then participate in a fun and healthy activity in the afternoon. On Friday afternoons during the school year, we have a time of worship and teaching with the students. This is a great opportunity for us a Christian organization to introduce Biblical principles to the students that chose to come. We also provide a health snack and hot meal to the students.
